Becoming a successful creator is a skill set — there is no magic bullet. There are three key action items to help you become successful. Let’s go over them together; we’re here to help guide you.
1. Study Other Creators
Creators who study the business and study other successful creators inherently do well because they are putting success under a microscope and breaking down key factors. Questions to ask include:
What are they selling?
What are their labels?
What are their colors and brand?
What do they offer?
How often do they create content?
What is their pricing?
How are they marketing their content?
We recommend studying 3-5 creators and putting your findings in a Google spreadsheet so it’s easy to review. This exercise alone will give you a huge mental shift in your game.
2. Talk to Your Audience ASAP
Whether you have five or 5,000 potential customers, you need to start talking to them immediately. How should you talk to them?
Run polls on Instagram
Respond to comments
Send DMs
What can you talk to them about? Start a Google doc or note on your phone with questions, or start with these:
What are you struggling with?
What types of workouts or programs would you like from me?
How long do you work out for?
What are your biggest problems in trying to lose weight/build mass?
Do you want nutrition?
Asking questions like these helps inform the content you create. The creators who talk to their audience and start testing based on answers always do better in a shorter period of time — you’re literally a DM away from a customer and success.
3. Focus on Building Skills (Money Will Follow)
Learning (and getting good) at digital involves learning new skills and stacking them on top of each other to improve and become better at the content you’re offering.
Stacking your skills should look like this:
Learn how to create content
Create good videos
Learn how to package content and create (+ design) compelling-looking programs
Learn how to market
Engage with customers
Continue to stack up your skills and don’t worry about results at first. Digital is going to be here forever, so you want to get good at the game — learn about building skills, creating a compelling offering, and learning how to market, and everything will take care of itself.
Mindsets That Become Pitfalls
You need to be realistic with yourself, your schedule, and your goals and mindset going into this. Things to think about:
Do you have an upcoming break or vacation?
Are you overwhelmed by your busy schedule right now?
Do you lack a clear vision for what you want to do?
Are you currently unable to create content?
Are you someone who just wants results and doesn’t want to take the time to learn?
If you answered yes to any/all of these questions, you’re not in the right mindset now to continue as a creator. You might want to reconsider or come back at a time when your schedule is freer, you’re more motivated, etc.
We want to make sure our creators are in it to win it — and if you are, follow the steps above to get started!
