What is Playbook?

Playbook is an app that gives health, fitness, and athletic creators a platform to grow their own business. Playbook is also a consumer-based app available for download on iOS and Android devices, which users can subscribe to on a monthly or annual basis and make one-time purchases. To learn more about the difference between the creator and consumer experience on Playbook, click here.

What does the consumer get?

All major subscription businesses (think: Spotify, Netflix, Twitch, Disney+, etc.) give their consumers access to content for a single subscription price. Playbook does the same thing — we deliver the best-in-class experience for both consumers and creators for one monthly and/or annual fee. When consumers subscribe to your channel, you’re giving them awesome content that will keep them coming back for more.

You can offer an exclusive subscription and set your own price. Subscribers get exclusive access to your content, and you choose any price you want.

Additionally, creators can create one-time purchase (OTP) programs. Pricing for OTPs is set in the Offers section of the Creator Dashboard — creators create an Offer, set their price, and attach their program to it.

Do I own my content and data?

Yes, you own your content, app data, and emails. It’s your business, we’re just here to give you world-class technology and services!

Can users download workouts?

Yes, users can download workouts from both subscription and OTP programs. For subscription programs, once the user's subscription is canceled and their billing cycle ends, they will lose access to all content, including content that was downloaded. For OTP programs, users will retain access to OTP content - downloaded or not - as they have access to the OTP for life.

If a workout is archived and a user has downloaded and/or favorited it, can they still view the workout?

Yes, users can view workouts that have been favorited or downloaded even if you archived them. These workouts will be listed in the respective 'Downloads' and 'Favorites' sections of the consumer app under Profile.

How do I launch my channel on the consumer app?

You need to complete your profile and set up your Stripe payment. Then, you will be able to publish a program that can be viewed on the consumer app.

What happens after I publish a program?

You are beginning your journey as a creator. We highly recommend you read and watch all the training content we have available to help you create content and start building your brand.

How do my subscribers find me?

Every creator on Playbook gets their own unique sales link when publishing content. You should promote this sales link across all your social channels to drive users to click on it and subscribe. For more info on your custom sales link, click here.

Make sure to say “go to my app, click the link” instead of “go to Playbook.” To ensure you get attribution, direct users to sign up through your links rather than searching for Playbook on the App Store. Remember, you only earn revenue when subscribers sign up directly through your link.

Why don’t I have a lot of subscribers?

Nothing happens overnight — building a subscriber base is a slow, iterative process. You post content, promote it to your following, get feedback, post better content, promote it, etc. It's a cycle that takes time and persistence! Get tips to help grow your subscription base here.

If you are new to the business, we recommend starting with a one-time purchase.

What if I want to leave the app?

We’d be sad to see you go, but there is a way to leave the platform if you wish. Just let us know 30 days in advance, and we’ll initiate “run-off mode” on your account. This blocks new customers from being able to subscribe to your channel. Your existing customers will still have access to your content for as long as they are subscribed (and you will continue to get paid). We will try to get subscribers to transition off your channel and onto another creator who is publishing new content. After 12 months in run-off mode, we will delete your channel from the app, and your payments will stop.

How do I get paid?

As a Playbook creator, you get paid specifically from the monthly and annual subscriptions you bring in through your unique sales link. You get paid in increments over the course of each user’s subscription (i.e., you get paid $8.25/month on a $99 annual subscription). To get the full breakdown on payments, click here.

When do I get paid?

You receive payments by the 16th of every month for the previous month. For example, when you receive a payment around May 16, that’s your revenue from the entire month of April. You can track your current and projected earnings in the Payouts tab on the desktop app. To get the full breakdown on payments, click here.

How long does it take for sales to display on my dashboard?

It takes up to 24 hours for new sales (subscribers and one-time purchasers) to display in your 'Analytics' and 'Audience' sections of the dashboard.

Why do my initial payments look lower than expected?

Initially, payments will look a bit lower than you might expect if you enabled a free trial. Once those trial users start converting to paid subscriptions, payments will increase accordingly. To get the full breakdown on payments, click here.

How much money does Playbook make?

Playbook collects 20% of the earnings you bring in. Also, Apple and Google take 2% to 3% per download if the app is downloaded through them (instead of your sales link). So you’re walking away every month with 77% to 78% of the profits from your subscriptions. There are no hidden fees — that chunk of change is all yours. To learn more about the payment breakdown and process, click here.

How do referrals work?

After building up your app, the next step is to expand your monthly income via our referral program. You can vouch for Playbook and connect us with other creators you think would be a good fit for the platform. You can refer as many creators as you want — which could mean thousands of extra dollars per month. Referrals are a great way to accelerate your digital earnings! Click here for more information on the Creator Referral Program.

Do I have to upload workouts every week?

No, you can upload content as much as you would like (or as often as you think your audience would like). Once your channel is robust, you can create a routine and create content based on what you think your community wants!

How much content should I publish?

You should aim to post new content to your channel regularly. What “regularly” means varies for each creator and what their subscribers want. You need to make sure you’re posting frequently enough that subscribers feel they are getting their money’s worth and want to come back for more.

How do I fill out my landing page info?

Your landing page is your digital storefront and works to sell potential customers on your app. It’s vital that your landing page includes your story, goals for consumers who use your app, training requirements, accomplishments, and more, so users know what to expect when they train with you.

Fill out each section of your creator profile completely, as this information is

automatically pulled into your landing page.

Remember, you want people to sign up through your landing page rather than searching for Playbook on the App Store and downloading it. You only earn revenue when subscribers sign up directly through you.

How do I set or change the price for my OTP program?

Pricing for one-time purchase programs is now managed in the Offers section of your Creator Dashboard. To set a price:

1. Go to the Offers section in the left nav of your dashboard.

2. Click "+ New Offer" (or open an existing one).

3. Set your price and attach your program to the Offer.

4. Publish — your program's checkout page will reflect the Offer price.
