How to Use Your In-App Community

Boost engagement and connect with your paid audience.

Written by Jordan Blake

Already set up? The Community Playbook covers what to post and when, with copy-paste templates for your welcome post, weekly check-ins, and challenges. Read the Community Playbook!

Your Community is a private space where you and your paying subscribers connect outside of workouts. It’s one of the most powerful tools you have to grow your business, and here’s why:

  • Active communities earn more. Creators with the most active communities earn about 72% more revenue per subscriber than creators whose communities are quiet.

  • It keeps subscribers around longer. Community keeps people showing up and working out, and subscribers who stay in the habit stay subscribed longer. Subscribers who engage in your community are about 35% less likely to cancel than those who stay silent.

  • The audience is already yours. Most of your subscribers haven't joined your community yet, so this is untapped value sitting in the audience you already have.

Beyond the numbers, community builds real loyalty. Members who feel like part of a team are more likely to stick with you, cheer each other on, and recommend you to others. It is also a direct line for feedback, so you can learn exactly what your subscribers want more of.

This guide will show you how to set it up and make the most of it.

First, here's a quick overview of the Community feature:

Want to see how Community looks and works on web? We have a walkthrough here!

Tip: If you post from the web, the latest Community features are already live. In the Creator app, make sure you’re on the latest version, and remind your subscribers to update theirs.

Here's how the Community feature works:

Navigate to the Social tab on the creator app to enable the feature. You can enable and disable it via the Offers section in the dashboard.

When you enable it, your subscribers will be able to see a new Community tab within your profile on the consumer app.

To create a post, tap on the "Create" icon in the app or the message input in the Creator Dashboard.

You can use this to announce new workouts and updates, share your knowledge and tips, or collect feedback!

You can attach images, videos, and audio recordings.

  • Images. Attach multiple images in your post to drive engagement.

  • Longer videos. You can upload or record long video clips to post inside your community. Use them often to stay in touch with your Subscribers, start conversations, and drive action inside your programs.

  • Audio recordings. You can record audio posts right in the app and share them alongside text, photos, or video, perfect for quick voice notes to your community.

Click anywhere on the post to view the full post and comments. Tap the message input to leave a comment.

Posting Audio

Record a voice note and share it with your community, on its own or with text.

On Mobile (Creator app)

1. Start a new post. On the New Post screen, tap the microphone button, the last of the buttons at the bottom of the screen. You can write your message before or after recording.

2. Record your message. Recording starts straight away, and a timer shows how long it is. Tap the pause button to pause. When you’re finished, tap the checkmark. To discard the recording and start over, tap the trash can.

3. Check your post. Your recording appears in the post as an audio player. Tap play to listen back, then tap Post when you’re ready.

4. What your subscribers see. In the consumer app, your audio appears in your post on the Community tab, ready to play.

On Web (Creator Dashboard)

1. Record your audio. In the Tell us something… box, click the microphone button and record your message.

2. Check your post. Your recording appears in the post as an audio player. Click play to listen back, or the trash can to delete it and record again. When you’re happy, click Post. Your audio appears in the published post, ready for your community to play.

Posting Videos

Share videos from your phone, your computer, or your Playbook Content Library. You can add more than one video to a post.

On Mobile (Creator app)

1. Start a new post. On the New Post screen, write your message, then tap the gallery button, the first button above the keyboard.

2. Choose where your video comes from. Select Add from Photo album to use videos on your phone, or Add from Content Library to use videos you’ve already uploaded to Playbook.

3. From your Photo album: Browse your videos. Each one shows its length.

4. Tap the videos you want to add, then tap Select.

5. If a video is stored in iCloud, it downloads to your phone first. This can take a moment for longer videos. Tap the progress box to cancel.

6. From your Content Library: Filter by Clip, Video or Extras Video, or search by name. Tap the + next to each video you want to add.

7. Check your post. Your videos appear as previews below your text. When you’re ready, tap Post.

8. Wait for the upload to finish. Your post appears in your feed while each video uploads and processes, with progress shown for each file. Tap the X next to a file to cancel its upload. Keep the app open and your screen unlocked until the upload finishes, or it will fail.

9. Your post is live. Once processing is finished, your videos appear in the post, ready for your community to watch.

On Web (Creator Dashboard)

1. Start a post. In the Community section of your Creator Dashboard, type your message in the Tell us something… box at the top of the feed. The buttons below it let you add photos, videos from your computer, videos from your Library, links and audio.

2. Upload from your computer: Click the video button, then click to browse or drag and drop your video files into the Upload video window. Any .mov or .mp4 file works.

3. Your video appears in the post while it uploads and processes, and you can see its progress.

4. Once it’s ready, the video shows as a preview in your post. To remove it, click the X on the preview. When you’re happy, click Post.

5. Add from your Library: Click the Library button to open Add from Library. Filter by Clip or Video, or search by name, then click each video you want to add. The numbers next to your selections show the order they’ll appear in. Click Add.

6. To upload a new file from this window instead, switch to the Upload tab, then click to browse or drag and drop your file, and click Upload.

Note: There’s no length or file size limit for videos in your own posts. Subscriber videos are limited to 80 MB each.

Polls

Ask your community a question and let them vote. Polls are a quick way to get feedback, plan content, or get quieter members involved.

On Web (Creator Dashboard)

1. Start a post with a poll. In the Community section of your Creator Dashboard, click the poll button, the last button below the Tell us something… box.

2. Build your poll. Write your post text as usual, then fill in the poll:

  • Question: what you want to ask your community.

  • Options: the answers people can choose from. Add between 2 and 4. Click Add option for another one, or the X next to an option to remove it.

To remove the poll from your post entirely, click Remove poll.

3. Up to 4 options. Once you’ve added 4 options, you’ll see Maximum of 4 options reached and can’t add more.

4. Post your poll. Click Post. Your poll appears in your feed, and as members vote you can see the number of votes and the percentage for each option, plus the total. Click See results for the full breakdown.

Drafts

Start a post, save it without publishing, and come back to finish it later. Drafts are only visible to you, and are available to creators on web and in the Creator app. Subscribers can’t save drafts.

On Mobile (Creator app)

1. Start a new post. Open the Community tab on the Social screen and tap the pencil button in the bottom-right corner.

2. The New Post screen opens. From here you can type your post and use the buttons above the keyboard to add photos from your gallery, take a photo, or add a link.

3. Write your post. Once you start typing, the Post button and a three-dot menu (•••) appear at the top right.

4. Save it as a draft. Instead of tapping Post, tap the three dots (•••) and choose Save draft.

5. Find your draft. You’ll see a Draft saved confirmation, and your post appears under the Drafts filter. If it’s not visible, scroll the filter row to the right. The number next to Drafts shows how many drafts you have, and each draft is labeled Draft where the post time would normally be.

6. Finish it later. Tap the three dots (•••) on a draft to choose what happens next:

  • Post now publishes it to your community immediately.

  • Schedule sets it to go live at a future date and time.

  • Edit reopens it so you can keep working on it.

  • Delete removes the draft.

On Web (Creator Dashboard)

1. Write your post and save it as a draft. In the Community section of your Creator Dashboard, write your post in the Tell us something… box. Instead of clicking Post, click the arrow on the right side of the Post button and choose Save draft.

2. Find your draft. You’ll see a Draft saved confirmation, and your post appears under the Drafts tab, labeled Draft. The number next to the tab shows how many drafts you have. From there you can:

  • Post now to publish it to your community immediately.

  • Schedule to set it to go live at a future date and time.

  • Edit to keep working on it.

  • Delete to remove the draft.

Scheduled Posts

Write a post now and set it to go live at a future date and time, in your own timezone. It goes out on its own, so you don’t need to be online. Scheduled posts are only visible to you until they go live, and scheduling is available to creators on web and in the Creator app. Subscribers can’t schedule posts.

On Mobile (Creator app)

1. Start a new post. Open the Community tab on the Social screen and tap the pencil button in the bottom-right corner. The New Post screen opens.

2. Write your post. Add your text and any photos or links. Once you start typing, the Post button and a three-dot menu (•••) appear at the top right.

3. Choose Schedule post. Instead of tapping Post, tap the three dots (•••) and choose Schedule post.

4. Pick a date and time. Use the date and time dropdowns to choose when your post should go live. The selected date and time are shown above the dropdowns, in your local timezone. Tap Schedule to confirm, or tap X to go back to your post.

5. Your post is scheduled. You’ll see a Post scheduled confirmation, and your post appears under the Scheduled filter, labeled with the date and time it will go live. If the filter isn’t visible, scroll the filter row to the right.

On Web (Creator Dashboard)

1. Write your post and choose Schedule post. In the Community section of your Creator Dashboard, write your post in the Tell us something… box. Instead of clicking Post, click the arrow on the right side of the Post button and choose Schedule post.

2. Pick a date and time. Use the date and time dropdowns to choose when your post should go live, then click Schedule. To go back without scheduling, click Cancel.

3. Your post is scheduled. You’ll see a Post scheduled confirmation, and your post appears under the Scheduled tab, labeled with the date and time it will go live. The number next to the tab shows how many posts are waiting. From there you can:

  • Post now to publish it immediately.

  • Reschedule to pick a new date or time.

  • Edit to change the post.

  • Delete to remove it.

4. Edit a scheduled post. Click Edit, and the post opens in the box at the top of your feed. Make your changes and click Save to keep the same schedule. To publish it straight away instead, or pick a new time, click the arrow next to Save and choose Post now or Reschedule post.

5. Delete a scheduled post. Click Delete, then confirm by clicking Delete again. To keep the post, click Cancel.

6. It’s removed. You’ll see a Scheduled post deleted confirmation. When you have no scheduled posts, the Scheduled tab shows Nothing scheduled.

Editing Posts and Comments

Made a typo or want to update something after posting?

You and your Subscribers can edit your own posts and comments in place, with no need to delete and repost. If you edit within 5 minutes of posting, the change is invisible to your community. After that, an (Edited) tag appears next to the timestamp so members know it was updated.

Note: Editing changes text only. Photos and videos can’t be changed after posting. Editing is available for creators on web and in the Creator app, and for subscribers in the consumer app.

On Mobile (Creator app)

1. Find your post. Go to the Community tab on the Social screen and tap the three dots (•••) in the top-right corner of the post you want to change.

2. Tap Edit. From the menu, tap Edit. This menu also lets you pin the post to the top of your community or delete it.

3. Make your changes. The Edit Post screen opens with your original text. Update it, then tap Save. To leave without changing anything, tap Cancel.

4. Your post is updated. After the first 5 minutes, an (Edited) tag appears next to the post’s timestamp.

On Web (Creator Dashboard)

1. Open the post menu. In the Community section of your Creator Dashboard, find the post you want to change and click the three dots (•••) in its top-right corner, then click Edit. This menu also lets you pin the post to the top of your community or delete it.

2. Make your changes. The post turns into an editing box with your original text. Update it, then click Save. To leave without changing anything, click Cancel.

3. Your post is updated. After the first 5 minutes, an (Edited) tag appears next to the post’s timestamp.

Threaded Replies

You and your Subscribers can reply directly to a specific comment, keeping conversations organized and on-topic. Instead of every response landing at the bottom of the post, replies stay attached to the comment they belong to.

Photos in Comments and Replies

Comments and replies aren’t limited to text. You and your Subscribers can respond to any post or comment with photos, with or without a written message, and you can add several photos at once.

Tip: Ask your community to answer a question with a photo: “Show me your home gym,” “your workout fit,” “your dinner.”

On Mobile (Creator app)

1. Open the conversation. Open a post in your Community. To reply to a specific comment, tap Reply on that comment. To comment on the post itself, tap the Write comment field at the bottom of the screen.

2. Write your message (optional). Type your comment or reply. You can also skip this and post photos on their own.

3. Add photos. Tap the photo icon to the left of the message field. Choose Choose from gallery to pick one or more existing photos, or Take photo to use your camera.

4. Check your attachments. Your photos appear as thumbnails inside the message field. To remove one, tap the X on its thumbnail. When you’re happy, tap the send arrow.

5. Your reply is posted. Your photos appear below your text. If you replied to a specific comment, that person is automatically tagged at the start of your reply, so they get notified.

On Web (Creator Dashboard)

In the Write comment box under a post, or in the reply box under a comment, click the photo button to add photos from your computer, then click Send.

Note: Photos can’t be changed after posting. Editing a comment only changes its text.

Reactions

Tap the emoji icon to add a reaction. You and your community have emoji reactions to choose from, so you can express yourselves better on any post or comment.

Gallery View

Multiple images in a single post will show in gallery view, making conversations easier to read as you scroll. Multiple images group together neatly instead of stretching the thread out.

Finding Content

Filters

Subscribers can filter the community view by all posts, coach-only posts, or their own posts. The coach-only filter is a great alternative to relying on pinned posts for key announcements. Subscribers can jump straight to everything you've shared.

Search

Search within the community to find posts on specific topics, yours or your Subscribers'.

This makes it easy to resurface a past announcement, a popular discussion, or a question you answered before.

Interacting With Your Community

Email Look Up & Reply in DM

You can easily look up the email address of a user from a Community post. You can also reply to the user via DMs.

On your Creator Dashboard, tap on Community and navigate to the relevant Community post. Click on the three dot symbol and select the "Reply in DM" option.

Notes:

  • If the user has opted out of emails, these options will not be shown.

  • DMs are an "On or Off" dependent feature on the Subscription or Offer that a user has purchased, this option may not be available for some products or creators.

  • If DMs are "On" for Subscriptions but "Off" for all OTP Offers, then a user who only has an OTP Offer will not be able to receive a DM. The button won't appear for you, the creator, to use.

You will automatically be redirected to your Direct Messages section and dialog with this user.

Same procedure on Mobile.

Mark DMs as Unread

Ideal for leaving something "Unread" so that you can revisit it later. This will mark the entire thread as unread and a visual marker of what message was marked as Unread will be present.

To do this:

  • Long press any individual message from a User.

  • Tap the "Mark as Unread."

"Unread" bar will be shown at that message.

Promotion Tools

Entering Text Hyperlinks

Your community post text can include links that redirect to outside pages. All links open in an External browser. If a matching app is found on device (i.e. Spotify Link) then the app is launched.

Users can long-press to view a drawer that allows for "copy link" or "open in external browser."

Pinned Messages

You can now pin a post and it will be highlighted at the top of your Community. These are shown as a group and can be expanded. Max of 5 pinned posts.

If you pin a 6th post, the oldest post will be automatically unpinned.

Ideal for: "I'm selling X or promoting Y, check out my Pinned Posts in the Community."

All normal functionality for a post is included (no restriction for starting a thread inside or anything). You should be aware that Users CAN comment on and engage with a pinned post.

Use the 3 dots and tap "Pin to the Top."

Notifications

Users are notified via push notifications when:

  • Someone reacts to their post or comment

  • Comments on their post

  • Tags them directly in a post or reply

  • You (creator) share a post

Notifications only go through if the user has opted into notifications for that creator's community.

Notifications use real names instead of generic text. Your subscribers see “New post from [Your Name] in the community,” and you’ll see exactly who engaged, for example “[Name] commented on your post” instead of “Someone commented on your post.”

Tapping the notification opens the app to the relevant post and, from there, scroll down to see the new reply. If the user is already active in Community when a reply comes in, the app takes them straight to it. If they're mid-workout, the notification won't interrupt, it'll surface right after the workout ends.

We also display a red dot indicator next to the Community tab when there is new activity within the feed.

You can also toggle notifications in the creator app, to be notified when a member posts in your community or comments on your post.

Tagging your Channel (@)

You can tag your entire Community. This results in a highlighted post and a push notification being sent to your whole community.

Simply type @community into any message. The app will autofill or you can type the entire phrase. A Push notification will be sent to all members of the community.

Note: (This is different from tagging one specific member by name in a reply: that only notifies that individual member, not the whole community.)

Moderating Your Community

A Cleaner Admin View

You can now manage and moderate all your community posts from one place.

Reported posts, blocked users, and pinned announcements all live in one spot within the Community tab of the Creator Dashboard, making it faster to keep your space healthy and on-brand.

Tap the ellipsis icon in the corner to delete your post or comment. As a creator, you can also delete members' posts and comments in your community if they seem inappropriate.

You also have the ability to block users from your community. You can do this by tapping the "Block User" option from the menu.

Blocked users are able to browse your community but they will not be able to engage by adding reactions, posts, or comments.

Subscribers can report sensitive content by selecting the "Report" option from the menu. They will be prompted to provide a reason for reporting the post or comment.

You should receive an email notification when a post or comment is reported in your community.

When a post or comment receives 3 or more unique reports, we will automatically hide it until you take action.

You can manage reported content by tapping "Reported Content" within the Community tab in the Creator Dashboard.

Here you can decide whether to keep a post or comment in the Community, delete it or block the user.
