General Rule
👉 Push notifications are sent to followers of your app (internally, we sometimes call them “subscribers”), as long as those followers have notifications enabled on their device.
This means that someone does not need an active subscription to receive your push notifications — they only need to be following you.
When Notifications Are Sent
1. New Workouts Published
Subscription program workouts: Notifications are sent to all of your followers.
One-Time Purchase (OTP) program workouts:
If the OTP program can be purchased inside the app, notifications are sent to all of your followers.
If the OTP program cannot be purchased inside the app, notifications are only sent to followers who already purchased that specific program.
Legacy workouts (not tied to a program): Notifications are sent to all of your followers.
2. New Programs Published
OTP programs that cannot be purchased inside the app: No push notifications are sent.
Re-published programs: No push notifications are sent.
Key Takeaways for Creators
Push notifications are a powerful way to keep your audience engaged.
Followers (not just paying subscribers) can receive your notifications, as long as they have notifications turned on.
Subscription content = notifications to all followers.
OTP content = depends on whether the program is available for in-app purchase.
Best Practice Tips
Encourage your audience to follow you in the app — that’s the main requirement for receiving your notifications.
Remind followers to enable push notifications in their device settings so they don’t miss your updates.
When publishing OTP programs, check whether they’re available for purchase in-app — this affects who gets notified.
