How to use the Running Template

Create running exercises for your workouts

Written by Jordan Blake

Cardio is undoubtedly a powerful facet of one's overall fitness, so as you create workouts for your users, you can add running exercises with ease. This can be accomplished either through the creator dashboard or mobile app. We'll walk through how to do so below.

The default option for such running exercises is time-based, but when you pick an Outdoor run (vs. Treadmill), you can select either time or distance. This makes it easier for creators coaching across a wide range of paces. You can now say things like “Jog for 5 minutes, then sprint for 30 seconds”—without doing mental math on how far that is for each user.

How It Works

  1. Add “Running” as an exercise within a workout

  2. Combine it with circuits, autoplay, or any other exercise

  3. Choose an Outdoor or Treadmill run

Outdoor run

  1. You can choose either Time-based or Distance-based options

  2. You can then dictate the time or distance for each segment you create

  3. Audio files can be added to outdoor runs

    1. Audio files can be uploaded from desktop, but can be recorded in the creation flow within the creator mobile app

    2. Audio files are not required

Treadmill run

  1. Audio files cannot be added at this time

  2. You define the time, speed, and incline

Your users will see all the segments you create, including total time and individual segment durations—no matter what options you choose.

Note: Running segments don’t support step-by-step text—so be sure to add instructions at the Workout level. Want to include audio cues? You’ll need to use an Outdoor run (details below).

Within the creator dashboard, you can create a workout, then select the 'Running' option on the far right:

Then, you can click '+ Add' to add a new set to the exercise, and click 'Save' when you're finished:

In the creator mobile app, start by creating a new workout, then select the 'Running' option:

You can record audio and add it to each set by tapping 'Audio':

Select the 'Up Arrow' icon in the bottom right to add the recorded audio:

The recording will then appear in its respective 'Audio' section:

To set the time for a run, tap 'Time' and select the appropriate time:

To set distance, tap 'Options', then 'Distance based' to add the appropriate distance:

Ultimately, users will view the running exercise interface below in the consumer app. They can start, play, and pause the run:

Notes:

  1. There is no opportunity to describe the running portion of a workout in text. You must do this at the Workout level.

  2. If you want to use audio cues, you must use the Outdoor run option.
